Do you have a dual-SIM phone running Android and wondering if it might be possible to activate a WhatsApp account with two numbers on the same device? You will then be interested to know that this is doable.
According to the WhatsApp Help Center, “your WhatsApp account can only be verified with one number on one device. If you have a dual-SIM (Dual SIM) phone, please note that you must choose a single number to check WhatsApp. There are no options to have a WhatsApp account with two phone numbers. ”
In fact, this is not entirely true. If you want to know how to use WhatsApp with two numbers, here are different ways to achieve it.
Two WhatsApp accounts Using Parallel Space
Parallel Space is an application available on Google Play that allows you to duplicate applications. In the case of WhatsApp, you can clone it and activate a second account with your second phone number. So you can use both accounts at the same time.
Create two user accounts on your phone
Since Android 5.0 Lollipop, the update brought a very interesting improvement on the versions of Android: the possibility of creating different user profiles on the same terminal, as on a computer. Thanks to this feature, each “user” can have their own account on WhatsApp (or on any other application).
To take advantage of this option, add a new user profile by going to your phone’s Settings and going to Users and accounts> Users. Then tap Add user> Ok. It is also possible to quickly switch users from the notification center.
After the second user is created, save the number of the second SIM card to WhatsApp. You can then use a second account on the platform by simply changing the user on your phone.
Use Secure Folder (Samsung phones)
While not designed for this purpose, Samsung’s Secure Folder (formerly My Knox) security app allows you to duplicate your WhatsApp account even if you don’t have a dual-SIM phone. This is because the program virtually divides the space of your phone as if it were two devices.
To use Secure Folder, download the application by going to this link (your mobile must of course be compatible).
Alternatively, you can enable it from Settings> Screen Lock / Security> Secure Folder> Start.
Once the app is configured, select Add apps to add WhatsApp. To avoid having to go through this folder every time you want to use your second WhatsApp account, you can create a shortcut. To do this, open Secure Folder and tap on Edit apps. Then select WhatsApp and choose the option allowing you to add it to the home screen. However, you can distinguish the two accounts, because the one from the Secure Folder will display a small padlock on the WhatsApp icon.
Use Second Space or cloned apps (Xiaomi phones)
Xiaomi phones allow you to create a second space on your device, which gives you the option of having two different sessions. To do this, go to Settings> Second Space> Enable Second Space. You can then choose to include WhatsApp in both spaces. A new icon will appear on your phone’s home screen to allow you to switch to the second space and vice versa. However, do not forget to insert your second SIM card in order to receive the activation code by SMS to activate the new WhatsApp account.
There is also a second trick for Xiaomi users thanks to the feature included in MIUI (the Android interface of Xiaomi smartphones), apps cloning.
To be able to clone the application of your choice, in our case WhatsApp, it is very simple. Here’s the procedure to follow :
- Go to Settings> Apps> Cloned apps/Dual apps
- From the list, select the WhatsApp application
- A new icon is then created on the desktop with a small orange bubble at the bottom left to specify that it is the clone.
- You just have to click on it and configure your second account.
As you can see, having two WhatsApp accounts on one Android smartphone is not that hard.
